Think seasonal produce grown in rich red soil, cheeses tasted fresh from the farm gate and enough wine to satiate you for weeks on end. There’s so much to explore here, and food and wine is just the tip of the iceberg.
So what are you waiting for? Pack your bags, check in to your Mornington Peninsula accommodation and get to taste the best of what Victoria has to offer.
Wonderful wine
The Mornington Peninsula region boasts more than 50 boutique cellar doors, and is home to some of the best pinot noir you’ll encounter in Australia. You can also indulge in cool-climate chardonnay along with newer kids on the block, such as pinot gris and shiraz.
There are various micro-climates around the area thanks to the Peninsula’s land, climate, soil structure and topography, which lend themselves beautifully to many different styles of wine.
Highlights of the mouth-watering wine region include Red Hill Estate, which has won multiple awards and is highly acclaimed by those in the know. It’s one of Australia’s most popular wineries and offers stunning wines set amongst a breathtakingly beautiful view. Another must-visit location is Quealy Winemakers, which has a long history of producing some outstanding drops. The Balnarring cellar door offers informal tastings from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. every day, giving you the chance to sample pinot noir, pinot gris, Muscat and Italian-style white wine.
Fabulous food
There are plenty of opportunities to sample decadent foods straight from the source on Mornington Peninsula, with farm gates offering fresh produce by the bucketful. Gorge on hand-picked berries, take home organic vegetables for your evening meal or put a platter together with olives and aged meats.
Red Hill Cheese should be your first port of call for creamy, tantalising cheeses, which can be sampled over the weekend and on public holidays at a unique Red Hill forest location.
If you feel like letting someone else cook dinner for you, you’ll be spoilt for choice during your trip. Start at Pebbles Restaurant, which serves up fresh Australian produce with a view to die for, before heading out for your next meal at Port Phillip Estate’s Dining Room, which is highly celebrated and features a blend of sumptuous European-inspired dishes alongside a sweeping vineyard and coastal view.
