Mornington Peninsula is nestled among seaside villages, aquamarine oceans and beaches hugging the coastline – there's enough beauty here to inspire many artists.
Given this, it is no surprise that there are a plethora of artworks on show here throughout the year. Street-side galleries abound with paintings and sculptures, while historic sites such as the Beleura House display antique treasures and collections from 1863 onwards.
However, there are also some temporary exhibitions worth checking out. These will be on over the next few months, so be sure to soak in the art during your next Mornington Peninsula stay.
Ways to Draw: A selection from the Permanent Collection by Betty Churcher
Back in 1999, revered artist Betty Churcher curated a range of drawings from the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery's Permanent Collection for an exhibition. The late Churcher made a tremendous contribution to the national art world. She was the first female director of National Gallery of Australia, and felt that drawing was her way of "creating order in a confusing world", according to an interview with The Guardian.

Now, 16 years later, a group of the drawings she curated are yet again on display at the gallery, alongside works by other contemporary artists that explore the importance of drawing. Pen, pencil, etching, charcoal – the swift, brisk strokes used to sketch are celebrated here.
Come enjoy these gems at the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery Civic Reserve, located on Dunns Road. The exhibition ends on September 27, and the gallery is open from Tuesday – Sunday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
