The Choir of Hope and Inspiration heads to the Peninsula
Tweet Published on 20th November 2014 in Blog, Mornington Peninsula EventsA trip to the Mornington Peninsula is one of the best options when it comes to holidays in Victoria, thanks largely to its wide range of events that take place year-round. On December 12, one of the most joyous and heart-warming celebrations of all will be heading to the Frankston Arts Centre – the Choir of Hope and Inspiration is coming to town.
If the name doesn't sound immediately familiar, that's because the group was formerly known as the Choir of Hard Knocks. The group began singing together in 2006 with Founding Music Director Dr Jonathan Welch leading the way, creating a space for homeless and disadvantaged people to come together and sing. Dr Welch has since been recognised with an Order of Australia and an Australian of the Year – Local Hero award thanks to his work with the choir.
The group won a Logie award for their Choir of Hard Knocks documentary in 2007, and has also won ARIA awards and a longed-for Helpmann Award. Now it's your chance to experience the magic of a concert with the choir. Tickets start from just $18.00 for this event, which offers two different show times. Enjoy a morning session at 10:30 a.m. or head to the afternoon 1:30 p.m. show.
According to the choir's official website, the group has had an exceptional effect on their lives, with many members returning back to work or study since joining. Personal confidence has developed and friendships are thriving within the choir's membership, helping these people make a positive impact on the wider community.
The pre-Christmas show runs for 75 minutes with no interval, and admission includes light refreshments of tea or coffee and scones before the show. You can also add a little extra cheer to the experience by enjoying the midday Christmas lunch.
