Be an intrepid explorer on the Mornington Peninsula
Tweet Published on 3rd December 2014 in Blog, Mornington Peninsula ActivitiesAll holidays in Victoria should include some exploring, and the Mornington Peninsula is the perfect place to get in touch with nature. Be sure to take advantage of the following attractions when you're in the region.
Mornington Peninsula National Park
The National Park offers bushland and a small strip of coast, bringing you wilderness and beach in one serene setting. Surf at Portsea, Sorrento and Gunnamatta or enjoy one of the park's many scenic walks.
If you're a seasoned walker or are looking for a challenge, tackle the Mornington Peninsula Walk which spans 100 kilometres of the Southern Peninsula. You can complete this walk in sections, taking you from the Two Bays Walking Track to the Coastal Walk and Bay Trail.
There is also an abundance of ocean beach walks, such as the Coppins Track. Originating at Sorrento Ocean Beach, the track weaves along the clifftop for four kilometres through to Diamond Bay. The walk is relatively easy and showcases a lot of the geographical changes that have occurred in the area over time.
Seawinds Gardens
Located near Arthurs Seat Summit, Seawinds Gardens blends exotic formal gardens with indigenous ones, with William Ricketts sculptures providing another reason to visit. The Gardens cover 34 hectares and sit 305 metres above sea level, providing a breathtaking backdrop of views across Port Phillip Bay. Follow the walking tracks to the various gardens, and enjoy a picnic or barbeque on the grounds.
If you're visiting the Peninsula during summer, the Gardens can provide a welcome respite from the heat as their location makes them naturally cooler than other destinations. They're open year-round and in the warmer months can be visited from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
