Mornington Peninsula’s best restaurants for foodies

Published on 3rd December 2014 in Blog, Mornington Peninsula Activities

The Mornington Peninsula is an ideal destination for foodies and wine lovers alike, as the area is ripe with culinary hotspots. If you're considering destinations for gourmet holidays in Victoria, make sure this stunning strip is at the top of your itinerary. We've compiled a list of our favourite restaurants here to help get you started.

Pebbles Restaurant

Overlooking the rolling greens of Moonah Links' esteemed Open Course sits Pebbles Restaurant, which uses the freshest local produce to create dishes that are unpretentious yet exquisite. The modern Australian menu is accompanied by extensive beer and wine offerings, and you can choose to sit either on the sun-drenched terrace or in the dining room. The service is impeccable and the food matches this standard, with the nearby Spike Bar offering the ideal location for a nightcap once the meal is complete.

The Long Table

Awarded a hat by the Good Food Guide in 2012, the Long Table is a mainstay of the Peninsula's culinary scene. The restaurant features antique timber tables and church pews covered in velvet, making for a truly unique dining experience. Owners Andrew and Samantha want guests to feel like they are dining in their own home, and all the staff are equally welcoming.

The seasonal menu is updated frequently, but if you visit during the spring you can expect to find dishes such as pan seared Bass Strait scallops, peas and pancetta alongside an impressive cheese menu which works well with the extensive wine list.

Port Phillip Estate

Port Phillip Estate is a vineyard, winery and restaurant specialising in Kooyong and Port Phillip Estate wines. Chef Stuart Deller updates his seasonal menu regularly, with a strong emphasis on European dining. Expect decadent dishes such as Aylesbury duck breast with roast heritage pumpkin, pearl barley and earl grey consomme, and don't miss wines such as the Kooyong 2011/12 Single Vineyard Meres Pinot Noir.

Ten Minutes by Tractor

Ten Minutes by Tractor makes for an unmissable Mornington Peninsula experience. It features three vineyards, located 10 minutes apart by tractor but each with different slopes, soils and altitudes. This gives each vineyard not only its own distinct environment, but also allows for very different wines to be produced at each.

The restaurant here is acclaimed, scoring two hats from the Good Food Guide for three years running, and serves up a menu full of fresh produce whipped into dishes with a French and Asian influence.
