Unsure what to do during the upcoming school holidays? When the classrooms empty on March 27 this year, your kids could soon be turning to you with that dreaded phrase on their lips: "We're bored".

Fortunately, you can easily beat the boredom by planning a family adventure holiday in Victoria. Take advantage of the two weeks off and start planning your trip to one of the most sought after holiday locations in the state. There is plenty to entertain the young ones in and around the Mornington Peninsula, so you shouldn't have much trouble finding things to see and do to keep your children happy.

If you are thinking about a family vacation to Mornington Peninsula, here are four not-to-be-missed events and experiences to help keep your little ones entertained:

Meet the Muppets

The stars from the ever-popular Muppets Show are making an appearance with a special guest these school holidays. At Rosebud Plaza from March 30 to April 4, Kermit and Miss Piggy will be joined by the Easter Bunny for an entertaining few hours.

Then, from April 6 to 10, your kids can take part in The Muppets creative workshop, building their very own Kermit or Miss Piggy clay figurines, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. each day.

Learn to sail

One of the best things about Mornington Peninsula is the proximity to so many great beaches. While the weather may be cooling down these holidays, this shouldn't keep your kids off the water.

For the adventurous family, April 6-10 is a great time to learn how to sail. Aimed at kids aged 7 to 12, the Tackers School Holiday Program is a fun and educational course designed to encourage a life-long passion for sailing.

Get arty

If your kids have an artistic flair, a trip to Mornington Peninsula is a great way to encourage their abilities. Along with a number of must-see galleries to visit, your children are not forgotten.

The Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery offers a fun and creative school holiday program, including a Little Designers workshop for 5-8 year olds and a Minds at Play event for those aged 8-10.

Alternatively, the less structured fun will can be found at Bentons Square on April 4 and again on April 7-11, with Crayola showing up with chalk, Frisbees, crayons and even an iPad station to create 3D-designed masterpieces.

Get educational

Just because school is closed doesn't mean your kids have to stop learning. For a fun and education experience for the whole family, head over to Coolart Wetlands & Homestead Reserve from April 7 to 10 for the PrimeSCI! events. Registered children can take part in science experiences while learning about the world around them in two-hour sessions each day. Spaces are limited, so remember to book now to avoid missing out.
