A quick guide to the towns of the Mornington Peninsula

If you're planning a holiday to Victoria's Mornington Peninsula, you'll no doubt be researching what attractions you could visit. Having never been there before, however, how do you know the distances between certain towns and where they are in relation to your golf resort? 

To assist, here is a brief guide to some of the towns of Mornington Peninsula.

Portsea

Portsea is the west-most town on the Mornington Peninsula, sitting on a narrow stretch of land at its southwestern tip. You can get there in just over 20 or so minutes from Moonah Links Resort. Portsea has become famous for exclusive living and large mansions, though it also boasts numerous beaches for both swimming and surfing.

On the western side of Portsea is the Point Nepean National Park. This area has numerous walking tracks to explore and see views of both Philip Bay and the Bass Strait, as well as a number of intriguing World War II military forts and tunnels.

Sorrento

Next door to Portsea on the other side is the popular tourist town of Sorrento. The journey to this area from Moonah Links is similar in length to its neighbour, lasting around 20 minutes. Sorrento's main beach, Sorrento Front Beach, is a great place to swim thanks to its sheltered, calm waters. 

There are plenty of cafes, restaurants and shops in this town as well, making it a hive of activity during peak tourist seasons. The Sorrento Museum is a must for anyone interested in Aboriginal relics and colonial antiques.

Red Hill

Moving away from the coast, Red Hill is set inland on the peninsula and has a range of both vineyards surrounding it and pristine native bush. To get to this township of 1,900 people, drive around 20 minutes straight east of Moonah Links. 

Red Hill is the place to visit for wine tasting and orchard tours, as there are an abundance in the nearby area. There are plenty of famous boutique wineries to tour through, such as Red Hill Estate, which is located less than 10 minutes south of the town centre. 

Moonah Links Resort

Your Mornington Peninsula accommodation itself is located towards the southwestern edge of the region. It is immediately adjacent to St Andrews Beach and is within close driving distance to both Rye and Cape Schanck, at 10 minutes north and south respectively.
